A quick reflection...
Although I had often made unconventional choices when choosing directing projects, this marked the first time I ventured to produce something that was never intended for live theatre. A pair of radio plays written by the brilliant Angela Carter served as our source material. Crafting space for the audience to simply listen would be key to finding an effective movement vocabulary when we set about staging these. Allowing for highly choreographed moments to co-exist with moments of stillness was the high-wire act I had to walk while staging this play. We tapped into the energy of folk dance and ritual for COMPANY OF WOLVES, and we found inspiration in the magic lantern and phantasmagoria shows that were popular in the Victorian period for VAMPIRELLA. The mix was heady, mesmerizing, and, I am proud to say, satisfying.
